I agree, they would be quite hard and scary in real life (it is the magazine's "horror" issue after all). I prefer soft, muted and touchable. But as art (which is how I regard covers like this), her makeup works for me.
It's odd, seems a lot of so-called goth elements are finding their way from the suburbs of semi-depressed white kids to the runways latey. I saw some new material on Alexander McQueen's site, as well as the skull- and pirate-influences. More interesting goodness via Sleek Magazine.
I love the dark, brooding aesthetics and can't wait to see what the kids do when they can't express their "individuality" through their mock-ups one another's style cuz it's being sold in trendy boutiques and department stores for 100 times the price of their Value Village outfits and cheap make-up.
