feathers and padding and antlers, oh my!

So, the net-a-porter Xmas dream list arrived in my email today... This is a much anticipated holiday event that I normally celebrate by blocking off an hour, pouring a little Alizé into a Japanese teacup and settling down in front of my laptop for some hardcore fashion fantasizing, but this year has proved anomalous. Once I had blocked off my hour, curled up on my computer chair and taken a sip of my golden liqueur, I clicked on the link and was met with....

An olive ostrich. Or autruche olive if Carine Roitfeld plans on wearing it, as she is one of the few femmes who could pull it off.

Do you want to look like an olive ostrich at next month's Xmas party? I don't. Surely there was another Showstopping Gown that the net-a-porter team could have showcased for a Must Have list? This feathery creation comes from Alexander McQueen- a designer for whom I have near reverential respect- but in my opinion l'autruche olive is on par with the "does my bum look plump?" gown from September's spring 07 show:

Excellent showpieces, particularly in the fantastical atmosphere of a McQueen fashion show, but definitely not made for mortals. Or Xmas parties. The antlers however are something to consider...

I loved the concept of the extremely curvy dresses, but I must admit, McQueen did not execute the idea all too well. You could see uneven bumps.
The antlers, however were majestic.

NAP's selection is really not that great I don't think...their buyers are losing their touch.

Brownsfashion and Matches is much better IMO....

Aww! Designers are like little kids sometimes... with the difference of being able to show off their fantasies. Those 3 pics are showing 3 big fat unwearable fantasies!.

The antlers make me think of the photos from the famous costume party...totally blanking on the name of the hostess. The padded derriere, however, is just comical. Like a fat ice skater.

No Carissa that's cellulite. Its a response to the anorexic look.

I tend to like anything 'olive' so I like the color and shape of the olive ostrich! But I got to agree on the view here overall... Sometimes people really need to find a better form of inspiration!!

Lauren Davis wore l'autriche olive to the Costume Institute Ball in May, I think she pulled it off.

I would love to wear the antlers! I would like to wear the McQueen for Halloween just so I could ask "does my bum look plump?.
