My immediate thought upon glimpsing this complicatedly webby garment: "How stunning! Rick Owens continues to be a genius designer. Wish I had the $524 in pocket change to buy it."
But then I see the opinions of Winona's male interviewees...
The Boyfriend: It looks like what you'd find on a corpse after it's been decomposing for six months.
The Father: First of all, what is it?
Me: It's a cardigan.
The Father: They're calling that a cardigan? (pained laugh) Oh Jesus...Well, it looks like something Morticia Adams would be really happy with. That's really atrocious.
Brother, age 19: This is quite a "fashion don't." It's just made of that mesh they bag onions with. I could make that.
Brother, age 17: Portuguese Man-of-War.
... and I reconsider. What do you think?

from the mouths of males
You won't hear me saying this very often, but there are times when straight men should be consulted for advice about fashion. Winona's post about this cardigan by Rick Owens Lilies is a case in point:

I guess I am a girl. I think it looks nice! Very Amy Lee of Evanesence.
Firstly, I really like your blog! : )
Secondly, this cardigan is horrendous. I just think that there are some classics that can take being massacared - this one can't.
I think it's stunning! The males may not be getting the whole picture since it's the sole cardigan, sin the rest of the wardrobe and accessories. Asking males to give input on most items in our wardrobes would probably cause them to cringe. Put it on an attractive girl, however, and it's a whole other story.
I actually had the same reaction as you when i first saw it on daddylikey starting by stunning to -maybe ..it does look a bit morticia adams to finally yeah, I would probably look like a giant spider.
Regardless of what the cardi looks like to men, women don't wear fashion for the sake of men, women wear it to show off to other women.
it's always funny to read and hear what other people think when something is considered out of the ordinary, like this rick piece. i'm a guy and i love it. but then, i'm in fashion...maybe ask your bakery guy??
Haha the guys opinions of thhat were really funny:D Umm I think it looks good in the picture but on a real person..not so much
its horrendous!! Its absolutely vile and the only people who may be able to pull it off are anorexic girls/boys who want to look even more emaciated!!!!
i'm a woman. i can't imagine anyone looking good in this.
What a fascinating garment! It looks like a fine spiderweb, but the Morticia claims are well founded.
I'm not uber-conservative. One of my favorite items is my brass buttoned cardigan with a hem that reaches mid-thigh. That said, I think the delicate nature of the piece ranks it as especially anti-masculine.
I think it is fantastic...
I'm with liza- these men lack imagination!
I totally completely agree - it's so easy to be sucked into fashion and silly trends. Men give us perspective. My aim is always to look attractive - for myself directly, but mainly to look good in a man's eye. That is what gives me the best feeling. I try to use fashion to achieve that. I-S-F

it's beautiful, but do you have any idea how skinny a woman would have to be to pull this off...like I'm talking about the 5'8 115lbs range --so basically a model....otherwise, yeah, you will look like a sack of onions!
i think its amazing! i just posted this cardi in my blog as well. its breathtaking. and although it might not look great on everyone, it is a work of art.
