into the abyss

Kazakh model Ruslana Korshunova fell to her death from a NY apartment this weekend. She would have been 21 on Wednesday.
It is difficult to keep track of all the models who appear from Eastern Europe each year, but Ruslana has stuck in my mind since I first saw her in this Mario Sorrenti editorial due to her name (I'm a fan of Pushkin's poems), and knee length rapunzel hair. The print version of her Nina Ricci fragrance ad (below) is currently pasted on a billboard across from my work. I think of her every day as I pass it.

My heart goes out to her because of her suffering, and to the people who were close to her, loved her and will miss her.

It's dreadful whenever someone commits suicide, but to think that this beautiful young woman was so alone and without hope, despite being surrounded by people constantly, is heartbreaking.

i hope she rests in peace and i wish her family well also. to hear that it was over a man; i hope this is inaccurate.

thanks for posting such a sensitive post... it's really sad what she did, leaving the rest of us trying to figure out why...

i read somewhere that you're twice as likely to commit suicide than murdered... that it's more common than we think because it's rarely published in the media.

a few years ago, my beautiful 25-year old neighbor committed suicide. he was so withdrawn from the world that he was in his apartment for two weeks and the mailman tipped us off because the box was overflowing, and we noticed a strange smell.

i myself have battled long-term clinical depression. it's serious, because it seems like the end of the road, everything seems so hopeless. but there is help, lots of it, and many different options one can take to treat it.

i only wish ruslana (and my neighbor) had gotten it.

A loss of such a young life is always a great shame, but hers was a true and spectacular beauty...

this reminds me of a friend who also fell to her death from a NY apt., also a model, who was heartbroken over a disloyal boyfriend. cocaine was found in the apt.
