Lately, I've noticed an increasing number of longsleeved smock-like dresses being worn by fashionettes around the globe. These garments definitely come under the category of "for petite femmes only" because on anyone larger, they would lose their huge-smock-swamping-tiny-person cuteness and look like... well, a shapeless bag. Essentially what a smock is. Although some femmes can pull it off with panache, this particular garment is indelibly associated for me with Mia Farrow's character in Rosemary's Baby- quite possibly the most terrifying film I have ever seen. And not just because of all the screentime awarded to Mia's endless collection of smocks. There was the whole spawn of Satan deal too. But I'm not sure which part of the film was scarier... So, you can tell that I won't be sporting the longsleeved smock this summer (the short sleeved versions are slightly better but still remind me of that movie). But, if you are a 5 ft. tall pixie like femme, then this may be a good look for you- just beware of demonic possession.

You're right. They are def. showing up more here as well.
i love scary movies but not the recent kind (hostel i am talking about you) where it's more about the shock factor than the story. older religious thrillers are especially interesting. did you know that they dared remade the omen? i am aghasted.
anyway, rosemary's baby was really brilliant. polanski hasn't done too well with the genre after its success (the ninth gate i am talking about you). but i too loved mia farrow, especially her pixie haircut. few can pull it off. did you see the latest season of ame. next top model? molly sue was made over with it and she actually looked really good.
anyway, enough, i've rambled. ;-)
p.s. i haven't seen many of these frocks here in boston. kylie looks amazing. good to see her out and about again after her treatments.
Les grands esprits se rencontrent... How do you say in English when two people think of the same thing at the same moment ? I put screen pictures of that great film on my blog a few days ago !! This is fashion.
In English it is "great minds think alike"...
I love your name-
When I was thriteen, these type of empire waist-smock dresses were all the rage! my favorite was a liberty print with a smock coat in lightr grey blue velvet that wnet on top.
Love Rosemary's Baby!
Can't wait to see the new Omen (never saw the original *blush*).
