they say bad luck comes in threes

So, after three major fashion weeks, there have been three...

major...falls.

Perhaps we should avoid the spring footwear collections from Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, and Karl Lagerfeld, respectively. Then again, none of the above models toppled quite as spectacularly as Jessica Stam at Chloe last year, and the 6" heels she was wearing have since flown off shelves... go figure. Hardcore fashionettes aren't kidding when they proclaim "style is everything, comfort is nothing". Who cares about a broken ankle when your feet are beautifully shod?

Mad.

Funny, but painful...

Jessica Stam's fall trumps all, she tripped and somehow transformed it into a pounce mid-air.

that Stam loop is hilarious! it must have really hurt actually. It does make you wonder though...not even considering the shoes they've got to contend with flowerbed catwalks to negotiate in heels at YSL, slippery at Chanel, more like an obstacle course!

I agree- something like 10 models slipped at the Chanel show before one actually hit the floor. The YSL catwalk looked beautiful, but I can't imagine walking through those flowers in stilletoes!

It's amazing they don't fall more often really. At NYFW, some of the models had to go down the runway in shoe samples that were the wrong size.

Ikeleine's (?) shoes look flat, so it's a little surprising that she took a tumble. The second model's fall looks like it can be chalked up to shoes that don't fit (too big).

Ah, the days when I used to wear heels everywhere. Now, since moving back to LA, I'm in flip flops nearly all of the time. My feet rebel against heels at this point, which is sort of sad because I have a closet full of pretty shoes.

And yet, I still manage to trip over my own feet in flip flops.

The streets of NY are not unlike the fashion runways you are describing. Since New Yorkers like giving each other the once over, you've always got a lot of eyes on you, especially if you're wearing something striking or are striking yourself. You've got plenty of obstacles to navigate: the basic poop, piss and garbage, homeless people, manhole grates that catch heels, worn down manhole covers that become as slick as ice when wet, uneven pavement that snags many a heel or toe (exactly when you're pretending to do your catwalk strut). Another similarity is that almost no once helps you up; they just watch.

P.S. Bravo to the woman in white trying to help the girl up.

I feel bad but that loop makes me laugh. But it really looked like the shoes were too big for her to begin with so it's hardly her fault.

OH Y! And I thought it was 3rd time lucky! Not in this case :)

And somewhere in hell, Naomi Campbell gets her horns...

Oh my god! So painful, not at all funny. I almost always wear heels. My friends are always surprised when I tell them I am only 5ft7in. Despite, I believe shoes that make you graceless are a fashion don't.

You're right Jessica's fall was one of the most spectacular of all! A bit embarassing, but I funny!

I didn't know your blog, it's very good!

Flats are hard to walk in sometimes, I've tripped in them before, and seen plenty of other girls slip as well.

Jess Stam's heels look nearly as tall as the ones Naomi was wearing when she took that infamous topple...

that animation...aie! great proof that we desire form over function, though.

That is hilarious and strangely hypnotizing. I'v been watching it on repeat for like 10 minutes. and now i should probably go do something else.

elsa: so true!

daddylikeyblog: Haha, I did the same thing the first time I saw it. I do worry about her knees and ankles though- it's quite a flip.

Jessicas fall is just quite unbelieveable, it looks like she's jumping off a table or something! btw I like your blog, just found it :) And you remind me so much of Natalia Vodianova in your profilepic :) I thought it was her at first!

i heart stam. she looked absolutely gorgeous at choloe despite the fall. though i must say that was one epic fall p.s. that video's mesmerizing, i don't think i'll ever get tired of it.

- face. (sorry i don't like the anonymous deal either, but no blogger, just lj)

How can that girl trip in flip flops, how? Naomi's Shoes wer 12 inch platform on the Westwood runway though, a ridiculous height!

Hey! The woman in that white coat, if i'm not mistaken, Is Elizabeth Saltzman Parker, the editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair. Proof that not all fashion editors and journalists are as snoot as Miranda Priestly from "The Devil Wears Prada".
Maybe Iekeliene's shoes weren't 6"+ as above but those Marc Jacobs shoes where heavily studde with rhine stones, cristals and steel: Imagine, the metal weight pulling against your feet in beetween your big toe and te other finger (can't remember?): Ouch. But what you notice is that allot of runway's like Lagerfeld's above are laminated, polished, waxed, and its not easy then to walk on them in the catwalk walk at high-speed. The Chloe fall was indeed a moment. Those shoes were not only ugly, but evidently large and high. 6"! with platform! oie! but I admired her proffesionalism to keep going. here's the unrolling of the event: check it out:
http://community.livejournal.com/miss_stam/59931.html#cutid1.
but i dont know if she feel twice. hmm.
